Hiring a Local DJ - What does a DJ do?

A lot of people are confused with really what a DJ does.

But what does an actual DJ do?  While we believe there are plenty of definitions and ideas out there as to what a DJ does, we believe a DJ is a professional mix artist who takes samples of sounds and songs, to then compiled them into an awesome original work. 
 
Granted, a lot of people tend to lump all of this into one person. But by description, someone who is announcing the event... Would really be an emcee. By the same token, someone who has planned out your music and executes the playback of those songs in a timed run down, or on cue... Would really end up being titled an audio playback technician. 

We believe a DJ is a professional mix-artist who takes samples of sounds and songs, to then compiled them into an awesome original work.
